Maria Del Pilar Iglesias Barrera, age 78, was called to eternal peace on Monday night August 21, 2023. She was born on July 6, 1945 in Nuevo Camargo (Villanueva), Tamaulipas to parents +Eusebio Barrera and +Magdalena Gonzalez. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, tia, mama, abuela and valuable friend to many. She married +Luis Iglesias on January 7, 1994 in Camargo, Tamaulipas. Her siblings were +Norberto, Leocadio & Genoveva Barrera.
A dressmaker, florist, and home health provider she devoted her life to caring for others. When her brother's wife passed away she took into her care his 5 children and saw them and raised them as her own: +Jose Angel Barrera, Eusebio Barrera, Olga L. Barrera, +Leocadio Barrera and Eleamar Barrera. Family members offered to help with their care, but she refused to have them separated. She was a helping hand to all of her nieces and nephews who loved her like a grandmother: Jose Angel, Martha Patricia, Brenda Lizeth, Edgar Ivan, Oliver Eliud, Jesus, & Maria De Los Angeles. She was the pillar of the family and everyone turned to her when in need. She leaves behind wise words of wisdom as well as many valuable life lessons. Her home was always open to all who needed it and she had the opportunity to share her life and create memories with 17 great-grandchildren who will continue to cherish her legacy. She will be fondly remembered by family and friends as the great woman she was.
The family invites you to join them in a celebration of faith in remembrance of her life. Viewing will be held on Thursday August 24, 2023 from 11:00 am – 8:00 pm with a rosary at 6:30 pm. Viewing will continue on Friday 8:00 am – 12:30 pm. The family also invites you to accompany them in Mass at Immaculate Conception Church in Rio Grande City, Texas at 1:00 pm. Followed by her burial at 2:00 pm at La Paz Cemetery.
