JOSEFA B. LOPEZ “CHEPA”
RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas
Starr County resident, Josefa B. Lopez, went to be with the Lord and entered eternal rest on Friday September 27, 2024 at 11:58 p.m. in McAllen, Texas.
Chepa was a widow. The love of her life, Rolando Lopez “Role” preceded her death 9 years earlier on September 27, 2015. They would have celebrated 65 years of marriage this year.
The family is faithful that Role and Chepa are divinely and lovingly reunited again.
Chepa was born on August 27, 1940 to Enrique Bazan (+) and Francisca Ozuna (+).
Chepa and Role married on June 27, 1959. Chepa devoted her life to providing for her family, helped build her family's first and present home, and was employed for over 40 dedicated years with the Rio Grande City Consolidated Independent School District in positions that ranged from food services, custodian services, and special education. In her early life, she was an active seamstress and enjoyed using her sewing machine.
Chepa enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas or areas that provided an opportunity to enjoy a few slots.
Chepa was an avid floral and plant enthusiast. She enjoyed beautifying her yard and patios with plants, pottery, statues, fountains, and bird houses.
Once Fall time came around, it was her beloved Dallas Cowboy Football time! As it was well know, Thanksgiving Days were commonly hosted at Chepa’s home and Chepa’s luck was usually on point with hitting several Thanksgiving Day and Super Bowl pots.
She usually reminisced about her attending Rio Rattler football games with her sweet heart and her gifts of mums for homecoming.
Chepa was well known in the community, primarily due to her various business ventures. Chepa was very much an entrepreneur with her life span of operating novelty stores, thrift stores, food establishments, baking (nobody even comes close to her pineapple crisp dessert) or various crafts. Through her devotion of running her small businesses, she maintained many acquaintances throughout the community and enjoyed catching up with many when the opportunities presented themselves.
As a child, she loved playing, he was down to earth, enjoyed watching her “novelas,” and made the best tamales de elote.
