Jesus M. Garza's Obituary
Jesus (Chuy) Maria Garza (90) passed away peacefully on August 15, 2024. Jesus was a proud veteran serving in the US Army on active duty during the Korean War Era and in the US Army Reserve state side from 1955 - 1963. During this time He served as Heavy Weapons Infantryman and was posted overseas in Germany. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1963 and was reunited to his beloved Starr County where he then married Adelfa Garcia. Following his military service he became a Certified Aircraft Mechanic, receiving the highest scores in his class. Jesus was employed by USDA for 34 years while also contributing to the valley’s aviation community. In the 1970s, he co-founded Rio Water Supply, starting the organization from the ground up, and serving as president for many years. He did this with no funding, using his own home as headquarters and his family as assistance. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jesus was a devoted catholic, family man, coffee enthusiast, and passionate cattle rancher. Jesus raised black angus cattle with the same diligence and care he applied to every aspect of his life. He is best known for his sense of humor, quick wit, and the love he had for his family. He is preceded in death by his parents Isidra Adame Garza and Ramon Garza, grandchild Angel Alaffa, and great grandchild Poema Gonzalez. He is survived by his wife Adelfa Garza, 6 children, Norma G. (Rick Esparza) Nora G. (Rodrigo Lopez) Humberto Garza (Elsa Garza) Nilda G. (Javier Gonzalez) Maricela G. (Rolando Salinas), Marissa G. (Pedro Rosales). Jesus is also survived by his 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Jesus will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, youthful spirit, kind heart, and the legacy he leaves in both his family and community.
Viewing will be held at Hernandez Funeral Home Sunday 1pm-8pm.
Monday viewing 8am -2pm.
