La Victoria Ranch/Edinburg
Guadalupe “Lupita” De La Cruz Gutierrez, age 90, went to be with the Lord on January 16, 2018, in Edinburg surrounded by her family. Born on January 20, 1927 in La Grulla to Ramon De la Cruz and Viviana Rivera De la Cruz, she lost her father at a very young age and was responsible to assist her mother in raising her siblings. She married Moises Gutierrez in 1945 and made their home at La Victoria Ranch where she resided most of her life, until recently when she moved to Edinburg. Lupita was known for the delicious meals, baked pastries and mostly her love for sewing quits with a group of women from La Grulla MD church. One of those quilts was highlighted in several museums in Texas. Moises and Lupita were featured through a play at the Hidalgo County Historical Museum in Edinburg. She wrote articles for The Rio Grande Herald and Town Crier. One of the articles was the story of the naming of La Victoria Ranch and life in that area during the war years. She served at the Grulla MD Church as an adult Sunday School teacher for 23 years. Her favorite verse was Acts 16:35 (KJV) that says, “…believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house,” Her parting verse was II Timothy 4:7 (KJV), “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Moises Gutierrez, her parents Ramon De la Cruz and Viviana Rivera, a brother, Jose De La Cruz, and a sister, Elvira Munoz. She is survived by her 5 children, Rogelio (Ernestina) Gutierrez, Rosalinda (Eusebio) Seanz, Rosela (Domingo Jr.) Villarreal, Ramon (Susan) Gutierrez, and Joaquin (Juana) Gutierrez, 12 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. She is survived by her 3 sisters, Elva (Pedro) Flores, Eliza (Geronimo) Flores, and Ramona (Jose Pedro) Olivarez and 1 brother Rene De la Cruz, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Hernandez Funeral Home in La Joya, Texas, on January 19, 2018, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. The church service will take place at 10:00 am at Faith Fellowship Bible Church on Tom Gill Rd. in Penitas, TX, with Pastor Domingo Villarreal, III officiating services. Graveside service will be held January 20, 2018 at Saenz/Gutierrez Family Cemetery in La Victoria Ranch. The family would like to thank DHR Hospice for the special care and for her caregivers the Armando, Linda, Arturo “Andrew” Lopez, who provided extra special care and love for our mother.
