It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Ella Montemayor of Rio Grande City, Texas, who passed away on July 7, 2021 at the age of 93, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends can send flowers and/or light a candle as a loving gesture for their loved one. Ella was predeceased by: her parents, Estanislao Medina and Arnulfa Martinez Medina; her beloved husband Arturo Montemayor Jr., and her great grand-child Jonah J. Consier. She is survived by: her children, Araceli Montemayor, Arturo Montemayor III (Nelda) and Aaron Montemayor (Annette); and her sister Elva Garcia Medina. She is also survived by her 12 grand-children, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-greatgrandchildren.
She was a graduate of A & I university-Kingsville and began teaching at the age of 18. During her career of over 50 year's she served as a cheerleading coach, elementary classroom teacher, special education instructor, and Special Olympics coach.
Ella was a life-long member of the First Methodist Church serving as a Sunday School teacher as well as several committee assignments. She was an active member of the Mujeres Methodistas Unidas dedicated to spiritual growth, transformative education and advocacy. She was elected president of the Texas group and represented the state at the national conference.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 11th from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hernandez Funerals (701 E. Eisenhower Rd, Rio Grande City, Tx 78582). Viewing will be held on Monday, July 12th 2021 from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM and at 10:00 AM at the First Methodist Church. A burial will July 12th at 11:00 AM at the Rio Grande City Cemetery (Rio Grande City, Tx 78582). Due to the current climate surrounding COVID -19, we are limiting the amount of visitors to our facility and requiring all guests to please wear a mask and observe social distancing.
