Baldemar (La Perica) Diaz's Obituary
It is with deep love and remembrance that the family of Baldemar Diaz announces his passing on October 2, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on January 2, 1940, to the late Uvaldo Diaz and Antonia Diaz, Baldemar lived a life marked by devotion to family, community, and the causes he believed in.
Baldemar is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Olga Diaz, and children: Leticia Diaz, Baldemar Diaz Jr., Ilmar Diaz, Sylvia Diaz, Maria Antonia Diaz. He is survived by his loving children: Maria Escamilla (4), San Juanita Corona (3), Jose Gabriel Diaz (4), Dora Navarro (4), Jesus Diaz (Wife: Anna Diaz). He leaves behind a large and proud family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will continue to carry his legacy of joy, resilience, and faith.
A lifelong resident of Rio Grande City, Baldemar dedicated many years of service as a volunteer with the Rio Grande City Fire Department. He was also a passionate political activist, deeply committed to improving his community and giving a voice to Starr County. As a charter member of a historic county strike, he stood for justice and fairness, inspiring others with his courage and leadership. His dedication to helping others and his passion for civic engagement left a lasting mark on the community.
Known for his ever-present smile, generosity, and love of conversation, Baldemar brought joy to those around him. He was happiest when surrounded by family, playing poker with friends, or engaging in spirited debates about politics and world issues.
Above all, Baldemar was a devoted grandfather and great-grandfather, who cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. His warmth, humor, and generosity will forever be remembered by those whose lives he touched.
