Ada Marjory Morlen Escobar's Obituary
Ada Marjory Morlen Escobar
Rio Grande City- Ada Marjory Morlen Escobar, 84, entered eternal rest on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Amara Hospice in Edinburg, Texas.
Ada was born, raised, and lived in Rio Grande City for almost her entire life. She loved her hometown, and its people. She was always ready to say “hello” and visit with anyone who wanted to talk. There were no strangers in Ada’s life, only friends she had yet to meet.
Ada was loved by all who knew her. She was an amazing woman who accomplished so much in the span of her lifetime. She was always proud of the fact that before she became a wife, mother, and grandmother, she was an independent woman who held multiple jobs to help out her family before marrying the love of her life, Catarino Escobar.
She was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Catarino, for over 57 years. Over the span of their marriage there were many “ups and downs,” but they weathered every storm together counting on each other’s strength to persevere. They welcomed seven children, and eight grandchildren who loved her wholeheartedly. Ada’s grandchildren named her “Grandma Love,” which was a badge of honor for her. She was the light and life of any family gathering, and was constantly sought after to tell a story or sing a song; she was always ready to oblige.
Ada had a love of reading and singing which she passed on to her children and grandchildren. It was not uncommon to hear Ada singing as she cooked for her family or read a chapter between loads of laundry. Ada always found a way to make the mundane a celebration.
Ada is preceded in death by her parents Roscoe Morlen and Antonia Lund Morlen, as well as siblings Edna Mae Morlen Salinas, James Morlen, Roy Morlen, Roscoe Morlen Jr., and her beloved husband, Catarino Escobar.
She is survived by her children, Edna Mae Monroe (Phillip), Ricardo Javier Escobar (Thelma), Mary Elizabeth Molina (Gilberto), Catherine Rubio (Alfonso), Deborah Anne Saldaña (Luis), Ada Majorie Escobar-Sanchez (Javier), and Cynthia Marie Escobar, along with her eight grandchildren, Rebeca Rosario Rubio, Jessica Renee’ Escobar, David Anthony Saldaña, Victoria Rose Saldaña, Alfonso Catarino Rubio, Jeremy Daniel Escobar, Matthew Alexander Saldaña, and Olivia Susana Rubio. She is also survived by various nieces and nephews who loved her and cherish their many memories of “Tía Ada.”
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017, from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home chapel. Final respects will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home chapel, with funeral mass at Immaculate Conception Church at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2017. Graveside service will follow at the Rio Grande City, city cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hernandez Funeral Home of Rio Grande City.
