I loved my cousin Sulema.
I loved that she was fiercely independent, strong willed , opiniated , and unrepenting.
I loved that she was strongly devoted and loyal to her family, and her brothers and sisters, the infamous Marroquin’s of Rio Grande City.
She lived her life to the fullest . Was proud of her children and bragged about her husband Mike, who took care of her and denied her nothing.
Sulema, like my husband, Will Ehrle, had more lives than a cat! Despite illness, surgery, and hospitalization, over and over through the years, she persevered until her poor body gave out.
Like Sulema, my husband Will was diagnosed with terminal illness. I used to call Sulema and she listened to me , heard my cries, never admitting until the end of conversation, how she was hospitalized, had just been released and was recuperating. She never complained.
Sulema kept up with her family and what was happening, facts & gossip. She kept me informed of weddings, deaths, illness, arrests and of course, indictments…such is life in the Rio Grande Valley.
I will miss you, Cousin Sulema. But you are now free of pain and with the Lord.
Your cousin, Gloria Leal Ehrle
