Jesus M. Solis Jr.
June 4, 1957 - January 1, 2021
Rio Grande City - His love of family as a devoted father, grandfather, and husband; his loyalty as an endearing friend and his dedication in his profession as a truck driver all left an indelible mark in the lives of those who loved him and knew him. Jesus M. Solis, Jr., who loved life and lived it to the fullest, lost a brief but well-fought battle to cancer and earned his wings on January 1, 2021 surrounded by his wife and children who loved him dearly. Even though his short illness took him from this life, his loving heart will continue to be a beacon of light to all who knew him. Jr was born June 4, 1957 to Jesus and Herlinda Solis in Rio Grande City, TX. As the eldest son in his family he learned the value of hard work and sacrifice as he secured different jobs in the community to help out his family. He eventually began his career as a truck driver and was devoted to that job for over twenty-five years. It was a job he loved and one that gave him immense purpose. On the road he planned for great times with family and friends, but when he was home the road beckoned him endlessly. It was this call, this way of life that made him the man he was. The simplest pleasures in life brought Jr great joy. He loved quiet evenings at home with his family, hunting season with his friends, and evenings in the backyard grilling or making chicken wings and fries for all to enjoy. Jr also took great pride in attending sports events for his grandchildren, he was their biggest fan. Jr was a good man who was always willing to help anyone who needed him. He never said no to a call for help and he was always compassionate, loyal, and helpful. Jr is preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Herlinda Solis; and two brothers, Roy and Jaime Solis. Jr is survived by his wife, Melba Garza; his sons, Jesus M. Solis, III (Arled), Jesse J. Duncan; Daughters, Roxanne Meurer (Charlie), Rosanne Solis (Kashes), Laura Sierra (Armando), Teresa Alaniz, Claudia Alaniz, and Jessica Vecchio. Other survivors include his five beautiful grandchildren; Milani Meurer, Michael Jesus Meurer, Benjamin Meurer, Naima Clay, and Jayden Jesus Solis. Also left to cherish his memory are his siblings; Javier Solis, Fany Guerrero, Mirtha Lopez, Maricela Solis, and Leticia Guerra as well as numerous nephews, nieces, extended family and friends who loved him dearly. Family will gather at Hernandez Funerals from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm. Funeral services are under the direction of Hernandez Funeral Home in Rio Grande City, TX.
